"Chickmangalur and Mullayangiri"-Highest range in Karnataka.....Guest Post by Devanshi Nigam

To travel is to be free! And when those who are closest to you, join you for one such venture, it's the most beautiful journey ever. I am writing this one as a guest, because the owner of this blog is the best sister in the world, and this particular journey gave me so many memories with her to cherish. The destination is Chikmagalur-Mullayangiri, the highest range in Karnataka...and when hills are calling, there is no second thoughts to it! My base is Mysore and we booked a small cab for 4 people. The cab companies usually charge by kilometers and for small cars, it is Rs.7 per kilometer (Driver charges and other charges excluded). Distance between Mysore and Chikmagalur is approximately 140 Km.

Since it's a long distance and takes almost 4 hours to reach, we started from Mysore by 5.00 am in the morning. Karnataka is at its greenest best during the monsoon months and any hill you decide to visit during the months of June-July will surely give you a sight of what heaven must be like! The drive was super relaxing! Everyone let themselves loose and didn't even mind grooving to stupid Dhinchak Pooja songs! The entire road trip was full of scenic beauties and included wind-mills!
Awww "The wind Mills".....

We crossed Hassan and Chikmagalur before finally hitting the hills! Almost 45 minutes of topsy-turvy curves and we were finally a-top! Veiled by clouds, Mullayangiri was no less beautiful than a goddess!

And once on top of the hill, the feeling of letting the reality go and embracing the utopia was eternal! Of course, it was followed by a lot of silly pictures too! But that's how we mix serenity and fun!

After spending around an hour there, we resolved our journey to another hill, Bababudnagiri. By the time we reached there, it was raining very heavily and we could not explore the caves located there. However, that did not stop us from making pit-stops on the entire route and click beautiful pictures!

Since we planned to complete the journey in one day only, many places were cut from the list. However, those willing to stay longer can opt for any home-stay and make it a two-day trip. Trekking from Mullayangir to Bababudnagiri will be a good option if there is a day's time. Since these places are not that commercial, there is no ticket for anything and the cabs can go till the highest point, unlike Coorg, where special jeeps take you to the top-most point.

The next stop was Dabdabe Falls. OKAY! Unlike the two hill-tops, reaching these falls is a hefty task! We had two trek almost 2 Km, amidst the forests and narrow paths which were all mushy, because monsoons!! It's a down-trekking to reach the falls, and was not very tiring. However, the path was slippery and the shortcuts that others were taking, appeared dangerous. We reached the falls in about 15-20 minutes. The falls are not commercialised and there is no facility of change rooms available (like we assumed) and hence, we could only touch the waters and not go under the main falls.

One big tip is to keep salt ready with you. Because the water is full of leeches! And when they stick to your skin, grabbing and throwing them off is not easy. As easy it was to trek down and reach the falls, it was equally difficult to trek back up to reach our cab, especially after knowing the fact that leeches were not only near the water, but everywhere in the forest (Scary)!!
It was almost evening when we reached back to our cab and tired by all the trekking and leech-fighting, we decided to head back home. There is a spectacular sculpture of a goddess made out of grass and plants on the foot hills, where we stopped to click pictures and then straight to Mysore.

This day was as beautiful as all the travel stories I have heard so far. The route is so admirable that one can feel all the Rumi quotes coming to life right in front of their eyes! The final destination is ultimate heaven! Karnataka is a treasure! Exploring this state completely, should be on everyone's list. I will surely do one article on my one-day trip to Coorg too, very very soon! I hope I have done justice with my words, to the beautiful memories, the blog-owner captured through her lens! I will always remember this day as the most prized one!
